CLIENT: Indiana University (IU) Sustainability Task Force and IU Utilities Group. METHODS: contextual interviews, brainstorming and ideation, sketching and illustration, wireframe, screen prototype, strategic design planning TOOLS: Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, paper-prototyping and evaluation DELIVERABLES: [Presentation PDF] , [Report PDF]
+ OVERVIEW The goal of this project was to develop a range of design concepts aimed at promoting sustainable attitudes and behaviors towards resource consumption among student populations at the Indiana University (IU) Bloomington campus. This project was funded through a Graduate Sustainability Fellowship by the IU Sustainability Task Force and IU Utilities Group. + ECO-VISUALIZATION DESIGN STRATEGIES A set of eight eco-visualization design strategies emerged from a critical survey of over 80 design exemplars.
+ EXPERIENCE FRAMEWORK Interviews with IU students and evaluations of past IU energy awareness initiatives suggested an experiential framework consisting of three design areas corresponding to three levels of engagement.
+ CONCEPTS The framework and design strategies were used to generate a range of concepts, including Consumption Kiosks, The Energy-Aware Lounge, the Student Pledge-Form and Student Pledge-Wall, Post-It Conservation Reminders, and the Consumption Scavenger Hunt
